Number of visitors coming for trekking, mountaineering down

The number of tourists coming for trekking and mountaineering two popular tourism products of the country declined to 11.65 percent of the total visitor during fiscal year 2010/11 from 20.9 percent of the pervious fiscal year, according to Economic Survey 2011.
The average length of stay of tourists in the country increased to a six-year high of 12.67 days in the current fiscal year. However, earning form tourism increased marginally by 0.1 percent, despite a rise of 18.21 percent in tourist arrival during the period.
During the current fiscal year 2010/11, the country saw a considerable growth in the number of tourist hotels and beds. According to the survey, a total of 45 tourist hotels and 1,549 beds were added during the fiscal year.
Number of tourists coming for pilgrimage tourism increased by 16.81 percent during the period. The rise in this segment of arrivals was only 10.4 percent during the last fiscal year.
